BEAUTY TREND ROUND-UP
Whether it was New York, Milan, London or Paris, despite the freezing temperatures and the dull skies, there were radiant, glowing complexions, splashes of color, and lots of sparkle and shimmer on the catwalks.
NEW YORK
At the New York shows – always a bit more conservative than the European ones when it comes to makeup – barefaced beauties were out in droves on the Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss and Coach catwalks. There was a dusting of glittery pastel-hued eye shadow with glossy lips on the models at the Oscar de le La Renta show, as well as some metallic eye shadow at Libertine. Zadig & Voltaire carried the glitter trend to hair with some dazzling bejewelled hair clips.
MILAN
Milan showed us some natural beauties, as well, but upped the glamour quotient with light-catching embellishments and splashes of bold, vibrant color. At Prada, the vibrant coloured fashions were echoed with pops of bold hues on the models’ eye lids, and some were even bejewelled with a sequence of Swarovski crystals. At Fendi, the inner corners of the models’ eyelids were given a luminous touch of alabaster shadow that popped with a silvery-golden gleam against bare skin. At Gucci, hair became the crowning jewel, literally. Diamanté added a little bling to headpieces, as well as the shoulders and nipples, and crystal-encrusted opulence characterized the adornments, Dolce & Gabanna, not one to be outdone, gave their signature bejewelled crowns and toppers an array of shimmering
LONDON
In London, shimmer took centre stage. Once again, the models’ eyelids benefitted from this trend. A lid-level coating of chrome eye colour made for a metallic moment at Delpozo, and at Preen glittering fairy dust was brushed across complexions and along hairlines. At Markus Lupfer, the models were adorned with a row of flashing hair crystals.
PARIS
Paris – often one to showcase experimental beauty colours and textures – closed out Fashion week echoing the beauty trends of New York, London and Milan but with a burst of neon. At Lanvin, the models’ makeup was left natural and subtle, with a focus on eyebrows brushed upwards. Although there was minimal makeup, some of the models showcased neon lipstick in bright green and blue, for example. At Dior, it was all about luminous skin with a pop of neon eyeliner, placed on the top and bottom lids, matching the hues of the sunglasses that were debuted.
